Offering the best of comprehensive, hospital-based medical management of acute health problems related to aging, Spaulding Hospital Cambridge Geriatric Rehabilitation program has been designed to help frail geriatric patients achieve the greatest possible functional level of independence and medical stability.

Patients benefit from the team's exceptional level of expertise and the leadership of Bruce Bonnell, MD, a geriatrician affiliated with Mount Auburn Hospital. The same team of professionals cares for the patient throughout the entire inpatient stay, resulting in strong relationships with both patient and family.

Admission Criteria

This rehabilitation program admits geriatric patients with acute medical and rehabilitation needs. Additional admission criteria for admission of patients 65 years and older include but are not limited to:

Fractures, stroke, heart disease, recent multiple unexplained falls, new onset mental status changes, multiple diseases limiting independence
Polypharmacy (more than 6 medications)
Delirium (including post-operative delirium)
Accelerated functional decline in the context of extended acute hospitalization
Depression, dementia, psychosocial issues or other underlying disorders.
