Spaulding Rehabilitation Network now offers Adaptive Sports Programs at three locations - Salem, Boston and Cape Cod

Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital has teamed up with Shaughnessy-Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital to provide this unique program on the North Shore, while the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Cape and Islands has offered this to Cape Cod residents for many years. Spaulding, SKRH, and RHCI offer an Adaptive Sports summer program for patients, former patients, and members of the community with chronic illness and disabling conditions.

The trained staff identifies activities most appropriate for each participant, based on his or her capabilities. Participants will have access to a range of therapeutic recreational activities. The goals of Adaptive Sports Programs are for participants to gain muscle strength, coordination, equilibrium, endurance, self-esteem, self-confidence, independence, socialization, and personal fulfillment through accomplishing the many physical challenges faced in sporting activities.

Sport activities provided throughout the summer program include Park and Camp Sports such as Glidecycle, Land-Sailing, Cycling, Golf and Wall climbing. The Water Sports program consists of Canoeing, Rowing, Kayaking, Sailing, Paddle boating, and Windsurfing. Other sports that participants may enjoy are Fencing, Skiing, Tennis, and YMCA workouts.

The activities provided vary by season as well as by location and are offered to participants of all ages. Be sure to contact the website for a full list of activities and times throughout the summer. For more information, please visit www.spauldingrehab.org, www.skrh.org, and www.rchi.org.
